The End of November

mood: fabulous

------------------------------------------
So, the funny thing about keeping a NaNoWriMo journal is--you have no time to keep a journal. However, NaNo is over, I've another first draft under my belt, I still like these characters, and I have an idea for my next year's novel. So all in all I'd say it was a pretty successful month. A lot of it was just slogging along, and it didn't all come together, even in my own mind, until the 27th, but when it did it was a beautiful thing, like puzzle pieces dropping into place of their own accord. I had loads of support and encouragement both on and offline, and most importantly, just got way creative for an entire month and made my writing a priority. Time now to switch gears and do some mental readjustments, but it's been a great month. The final tally:

20k!

mood: happy

------------------------------------------
Okay, feeling pretty good tonight as I've cracked the 20k mark. Of course this means that I'm nearing the halfway point, which in turn means that I should have a pretty good idea where the story is going from here. Unfortunately, not true. I've managed to get my characters into a peck of trouble, both personal and survival-wise, and now the trick will be to get them out. Sounds like a problem to sleep on...

Things are looking up...

mood: encouraged
music: Same Direction - Hoobastank

------------------------------------------
Finally things are starting to pick up (it's about time--Chapter Five already). In fact all hell is about to break loose, but my poor characters don't know that. They're sitting there confidently, wondering about this new wormhole and the artifact moon...mwahahaha.

Trudging along

mood: tired
music: Music from SF Movies and TV

------------------------------------------
Despite the antics of electoral distractions south of the border, recalcitrant characters, and a plot that just doesn't seem to want to get moving, I still have 9228 words after five days of NaNo. So far it's been a hard slog, and I'm hoping it will improve soon or I'll be exhausted just from trying to pump out the words. Hopefully the crew's arrival at the alien artifact and the ensuing...developments...will help to kick things into high gear.

But I need to make a few NaNo resolutions. 1) Stop reading political commentary. 2) Stop eating so much. 3) Stop allowing myself to be distracted by anything and everything.

*Sigh*

Word Count: 9228
Body Count: 0
Plot Points: 4
Unexpected developments: 3
Coffee/Tea Consumed: 10
Dares taken/completed: 1/0
Aliens encountered: 1

One thing I learned today: Encouragement from friends, if it comes at just the right time, makes all things possible.

Checking In

mood: Upbeat
music: Amazing by George Michael

------------------------------------------
Okay, so this is when my blog turns into my NaNoWriMo journal for a few weeks. So far, it's going well. Despite an initial hissy fit thrown by my computer and a day of intense sciatic pain, I'm rolling right along. Trying to get a jump on the word count now, in case things get slow later.

NaNoWriMo begins!

mood: Excited
music: Addicted by Simple Plan

------------------------------------------
Well, I had almost one whole day to de-stress, decompress, and mentally prepare for NaNoWriMo. Mailed out all the critiques yesterday morning, and in our municipality trick-or-treating was set for Saturday night, so that was over with. I guess it worked, however short-lived the break was--I got up an hour early this morning and wrote the first 500 words. Yahoo! In fact I was so excited I woke up about every hour through the night and checked the time. Perhaps I like NaNoWriMo too much? Nah!

Just hope I can get my characters out of all the trouble I'm planning to get them into...
